The Journey (Expedition Highlights)

The Mystical West: Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Our expedition begins on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, often called "Iceland in Miniature" for its incredibly diverse landscapes. This is where we will experience one of the most spectacular sunsets on the island at the foot of Kirkjufell—the most photographed mountain in Iceland. Along the way, we will discover a hidden gem:
a waterfall where we can walk directly behind the veil of water for a truly unique perspective.

Volcanic Wonders & Coastal Drama. We will focus on the raw, volcanic beauty of the Arnarstapi cliffs, capturing the famous Stone Bridge, the Gatklettur sea arch, and the iconic Búðakirkja (the Black Church). We will also ascend a dormant volcano for a bird’s-eye view of the landscape. Throughout this part of the trip, the mighty Snæfellsjökull volcano will tower above us,
its snow-capped peak contrasting beautifully against the dark, ancient lava fields.

The South Coast: Icons & Hidden Gems Next, we head to the heart of the South, near the charming town of Hella. From this base, we will explore Iceland’s most majestic waterfalls: the iconic Seljalandsfoss and the powerful Skógafoss, alongside several lesser-known spots away from the crowds. We will also visit the colossal Gullfoss and enjoy a gentle, scenic walk to the turquoise waters of Brúarárfoss.

Black Sands & Atlantic Horizons To conclude our journey, we will witness the sun setting from the Dyrhólaey cliffs, offering a panoramic view of the famous Reynisfjara black sand beach and its dramatic basalt stacks. Every location has been handpicked based on my 8 years of experience to ensure we are in the right place at the perfect time for the light.

What to Expect

This expedition is a departure from mass tourism. Our schedule is dictated by the light, not by a hotel clock. We often start our days early to witness the sunrise in total silence. Afterward, we return to our accommodation for a breakfast and time to rest. Midday is our time for recovery, regeneration and inspiring conversations about photography, travel and our shared passion.

The second half of the day is dedicated to exploring and capturing Iceland’s most stunning locations, culminating in a sunset session.

Comfort & Pace. While we spend our time actively exploring the island, no special physical condition is required. We focus on the art of photography and the joy of discovery without the need for strenuous trekking. I will personally provide you with a detailed guide on what to pack and how to dress to stay comfortable throughout the trip.

The Magic of the Midnight Sun. Late June is a magical time in Iceland. The island fully awakens after the long winter, draped in vibrant greens and endless fields of purple lupines. This is the period of White Nights, where the sun barely dips below the horizon. With sunrise around 3:00 AM and sunset near midnight, we enjoy 21 hours of daylight.

Climate. The Icelandic summer is mild and refreshing, with average temperatures around 15°C (59°F) – reminiscent of a pleasant European spring. It is the perfect climate for nature lovers who want to immerse themselves in raw, breathtaking landscapes without the harshness of winter.

What to Pack? (Preparation Guide)

  • Photography Gear, bring the camera you are most comfortable with to capture your memories. A modern smartphone is also a fantastic tool that offers incredible creative possibilities! Whether you use a professional DSLR or a high-end phone, the Icelandic landscape will provide the perfect canvas.

  • Weather-Ready Clothing, Icelandic weather is famous for its variability. To stay comfortable, we recommend dressing in layers:

  • A high-quality waterproof jacket and trousers

  • Comfortable, sturdy walking or hiking shoes

  • A warm down jacket (puffer jacket) for cooler moments

  • A hat, gloves, and a thermal base layer

  • Daypack, a small backpack (20-30L) will be essential for carrying your daily necessities: an extra layer of clothing, a thermos with a warm drink, or snacks for the road.

  • A Positive Mindset, the most important thing to bring is a sense of adventure and a good mood - regardless of the weather! The most dramatic light often comes right after a bit of rain :)
